James C. Landis is a native of the area being raised only a quarter of a mile east of Marietta. In his early teens, he developed a keen interest in local history and genealogy, and his passion for historical research now encompasses more than forty years of experience. Jim is a long-time member of both the Lancaster County Historical Society and the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and is an active researcher and volunteer at both organizations. He serves on the Genealogy Committee which presents the Annual Lancaster Family History Conference, and since 1992, Jim has taught classes on a number of genealogical topics with Pennsylvania's Colonial Tax Records being a special area of expertise. Closer to home, Jim regularly volunteers as a guide and historian for Marietta's Annual Candlelight Tour and for the Vesta Furnace Pig Iron Fest. He has given numerous illustrated talks on local history, and the focus of his historical research in recent years has been the history of the Borough of Marietta. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the borough's incorporation in 2012, Jim compiled a 700-page book, The Cemeteries of Marietta, PA. Jim is also a familiar face at the Susquehanna Stage Company where he has appeared in several of its major musical productions. He resides near Mount Joy with his wife, Stephanie, and is employed by the Township of Manheim as a staff accountant.
